New GW Loading/Select Screen
All,
Let me start out by saying that I got Prophecies right as Factions came out, and have continued to play (on and off) through Night Fall, and now into Eye of the North. Today, as I just opened up the program, my character select screen has been replaced from the ocean and boats to the snowy, windy taiga. Cool, me thinks, Eye of the North, baby! Maybe I'll buy it next year! Then, like a beam of light hitting my brain (ala Philip K. Dick), I realized that before Night Fall came out there was a Factions load screen, and was there a Prophecies one before that? Am I, like all others, stuck to the swirling snow until the next chapter comes out? I know it is something that takes about 15 seconds as I type in my password and select my character, but nevertheless: I own all the games, why not let me choose which chapter to see? All I am saying is: It strikes me odd that my Night Fall female necro, complete with shamanic tattoos and feathers, would be chillaxin in the snowfall - all for a game that isn't out yet and that I don't own. |

Changing the character select screen been discussed before. Basically, you can't choose the screen you want. I don't remember why. Try searching here. |

The Prophecies screen was beautiful. It was a camp somewhere in between the Shiverpeaks and Ascalon. Your characters also all stood in the background and would walk up to you when selected, instead of appearing out of the blue.
There was no camera movement, though. The music and ambience was wonderful. You may be able to find some images of its beauty elsewhere. Also changing screens is out the question, for several reasons. -Prophecies screen had no camera movement, so chances are it's only half a map and if you could turn around 180 degrees, you'd see nothing but a black box. -Prophecies screen had a different way to select characters, without them appearing out of the blue. -Factions (for the second half of its life) and Nightfall (and GW:EN) screens also have access to an online store. -Prophecies had option windows (territory, CD keys, etc) fullscreen. Newer screens have them windowed. |

Has anyone tried anything more than simply accepting it, or /signed?
I mean, I'm not bitching, just wondering, if anyone knows who makes these decisions, and how I would contact them? I am a huge fan of Shuttting Up and Driving On, just as long as I know my attempts will be fruitless. |

I think there are at least some of the graphics improvements rolled in as well since my login screen appears to be *much* greater detail than it was. I can believe some of that is my new vidcard, but not all of it.

We will never get the Prophecies login screen back. It has more happened to the login than graphical improvement, there have been significant changes in the functionality (what with the scrolling character icons on the bottom of the screen). They would have to completely rework it and I would say that while nice, a pretty login screen isn't actually very crucial to the game (i.e. almost anything else is more important).
That said, I think it would very well be technically possible to change back to the Factions or Nightfall login, but then, why should Anet pass up on such a great opportunity to promote their newest product? |

Aye, the original Prophecies loading screen was the best, together with the music, really got you in the mood in those few seconds that you use to log in

I have to admit that this GWEN one has some damned good music.
Though I always did like the old Prophecies one. You're right, it really set the mood. |
